Breast Reduction Melbourne VIC

Large breasts can cause neck and back pain, shoulder pain from bra straps, problems with rashes and infections beneath the breasts.

What is breast reduction surgery?

Overgrowth of the breasts not only causes heaviness, but also results in an increased likelihood of droopy breasts over time. Mr David Morgan has performed many breast reduction treatments for women looking to decrease the size of their breasts.  Large breasts can result from excessive growth during puberty, from pregnancy and breastfeeding, and during the changes of menopause.  Breast reduction surgery not only reduces the size of the breasts, but also elevates and reshapes them into a more youthful position. Mr Morgan’s aim is to achieve a breast shape which is natural in appearance and in proportion to the rest of your body.

What are the benefits of this procedure?

Large breasts can be a significant burden for many women.  They can cause neck and back pain, shoulder pain from bra straps, problems with rashes and infections beneath the breasts, difficulty with exercise and attempts at weight loss, and problems with finding correctly fitting bras and clothing, especially if the breast size is out of proportion to the rest of the body.  Breast reduction surgery can therefore result in a tremendous improvement in a woman’s daily comfort and quality of life.

Most women who undergo breast reduction surgery are thrilled with the result and the improvement in their daily life.  For many, their only regret is not having had the procedure performed earlier.

Is Mr Morgan experienced in performing the breast reduction procedure?

Mr David Morgan has had many years of experience in performing breast reductions.  With a particular interest in breast surgery, he is dedicated to providing successful results for his patients while ensuring their comfort at all stages of the procedure. Mr Morgan and his team pride themselves on providing a warm welcoming environment, and will take the time to listen to your individual needs and concerns.

How is it performed?

Breast reduction surgery is performed under a general anaesthesia and requires a hospital stay of between one and three nights. All types of breast reduction surgery result in some form of scarring.  The extent and placement of these scars will be determined on an individual basis, depending on the amount of reduction required, and the quality of the breast tissue and skin that remains. Sometimes liposuction can be performed as an additional procedure to provide the finishing touches and achieve the desired result.  These options will all be discussed with you during your initial consultation.

The wounds are all closed with dissolving sutures and are covered with waterproof dressings, allowing you to shower as soon as you feel comfortable. You will be asked to wear a soft surgical bra for support and comfort during the first two weeks to allow your breast to heal properly in their new shape, and you should avoid heavy lifting for the first 6 weeks.

How long will I need to recover after breast reduction surgery?

Everyone will experience anaesthetic and recover from an operation differently.  Although uncommon, complications can also occur and this may result in a longer recovery time. A post-surgical bra will need to be worn day and night for at least 2 weeks post-operatively to provide support for the healing breast and to maintain a natural shape.  Light activity is encouraged as soon as possible, and many women will return to work within 3 weeks. More strenuous physical activity should be limited for 6 weeks.

Who should/should not consider breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery is highly recommended for those women and men who are physically affected by the size of their breasts. This treatment can be the solution for back and neck problems. Patients should avoid this type of surgery as a response to another individual’s preference; breast surgery is about your body and your needs.  Any decision to undergo plastic surgery needs to be for the right reasons. Our cosmetic professionals believe that being healthy and happy with your decision will increase the chances of achieving a satisfactory result.  Smoking, a number of other medical conditions and being overweight can make surgery unsafe; however these and other risks will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.
