Brow Lift Brighton, Melbourne

The aim is to tighten and lift the brow and to open up the area around the eyes.

What is a browlift?

The forehead, brow, and eyebrows can descend or droop as part of the ageing process, in certain congenital conditions, and occasionally in traumatic conditions where only one side of the face may be affected.  This part of your face can be released, lifted and repositioned through a variety of different techniques, depending upon your concerns. Melbourne plastic surgeon Mr David Morgan can work with you to lift or reposition your brows for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

What are the benefits of this procedure?

This procedure is designed to improve the appearance of a ‘heavy’ or ‘tired’ upper face, and can also be of benefit in situations where the upper eyelids are also ‘heavy’.  The aim is to tighten and lift the brow and to open up the area around the eyes.  The forehead is usually smoother, the eyebrows are elevated to a more pleasing level, and the eyes are opened up, making you look more refreshed and awake.

Is Mr Morgan experienced in this procedure?

Mr David Morgan is comfortable operating around the delicate structures of the face and is completely confident with the brow lift procedure.  He will be able to show you photographs of his own patients, to help you get a better idea about the treatment and the results.

How is it performed?

A browlift is performed under general anaesthesia and usually involves one or two nights stay in hospital, depending upon the technique chosen.  Most commonly, small incisions are made behind the hairline to allow instruments to lift the forehead skin and muscles, and reposition them, leaving minimal scarring.  Other techniques can involve longer scars in or behind the hairline.

Bruising and swelling will often affect the area around your eyes and will usually resolve within two weeks.  A sense of numbness or tightness in the forehead is common. This surgery can be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or rhinoplasty.

How long will I need to recover?

Everyone will experience an anaesthetic or recover from an operation differently.  Although uncommon, complications can also occur and result in a longer recovery time.  Generally, most patients will recover sufficiently in three weeks to return to social activity and office-based work.  More physical activity may require an extra time.

Who should/should not consider this type of surgery?

When undergoing any cosmetic change it is important to have realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve.  Plastic surgery should be about the changes you want to make rather than a reaction to someone else’s opinion. It’s important to remember that all surgery entails an element of risk, and you should not make any decision regarding surgery at a time of stress.

Being healthy and happy with your decision increases the chances of achieving a satisfactory result.  Smoking, other medical conditions, and being overweight can make surgery unsafe.  These and other risks will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.
